Neff Packaging Response to COVID-19

Elizabeth Latenser

At Neff Packaging Systems, we're all working hard to navigate the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic while continuing to provide you with the quality materials you need to keep your business working. Neff Packaging is considered an essential business under the Department of Homeland Security and we want to make sure you know you can continue to count on us during this unprecedented time.

We are working with our manufacturers to maintain adequate inventory to meet your needs for packaging materials. At this time we are not experiencing shortages of packaging materials, or access to inbound and outbound transportation.

At Neff Packaging we are making a few temporary changes to our operations to keep our staff, vendors, customers and wider community safe:

  • Our outside sales associates are curtailing in-person meetings. You will likely hear from your sales representative by phone or email soon.

  • We have limited our service technician's response to non-emergency service calls. We will schedule preventive maintenance calls with you when state and local travel restrictions are removed.

  • We have supplemented our current cleaning routine with more frequent sanitizing practices in all high traffic areas after each delivery or transaction.

  • Our staff is following a company-wide physical distancing policy. The company is using email, phone and other electronic communication tools at this time.

  • Any staff member who feels ill or lives with someone exhibiting symptoms is required to stay home to get the care they need.

  • We have cancelled all gatherings of 10 people or more in our Kansas City and St. Louis locations

Our customers like you can help us maintain safe practices by doing the following:

  • Call or email your pick-up order ahead of time so we can have it staged for you at the loading dock.

  • Monitor your inventory levels to avoid any in-person rush deliveries or pick-ups whenever possible.

  • If you have a surge in activity due to the current business environment, please let your sales representative know so Neff can adjust our stock of your materials accordingly.

  • Don't hesitate to reach out with questions or suggestions on how we can help.

By working together we will get through this together.

Case Study #2

CHALLENGE:Eliminate Steel Strap Use while Maintaining Load Integrity

SOLUTION:This customer came to Neff Packaging with the idea they wanted to totally eliminate steel strapping. Steel strapping was expensive, caused workman's compensation claims and was blowing out forklift tires at an alarming rate. Neff Packaging and the customer worked closely together to come up with the optimal solution.

Upgraded to battery operated combination polyester strapping tools.
Neff Packaging supplied the service program to support those tools in such harsh operating conditions.
The switch to polyester strapping has saved the customer ten's of thousands of dollars over the last five years.

Neff continues to help customers realize the added safety, productivity and performance gains in converting from steel to polyester strap.

Case Study #1

CHALLENGE:Increase Throughput in Ring Bending Division

SOLUTION: The customer was using pre–cut 1 ¼" x .029 Steel Strap and two piece tooling to secure their loads. The excess time it took to pre-thread the seals, manually tension and seal the banding was leaving the machine idle for around 50% of the time. Neff Packaging and the customer worked closely together to come up with the optimal solution.

Added floor dispensers to eliminate precutting.
Upgraded to Signode pneumatic PNSC 34 steel combination tools. This drastically cut down packaging time along with improving worker ergonomics.
Downsized the strapping to ¾" x .025. This saved the customer almost 30% in annual strap and seal costs.
To summarize, the customer was able to drastically lower idle time and greatly improve throughput for this division. Along with these impressive gains, the customer cut 30% out of annual strap and seal costs!

What does safety mean to you?

Elizabeth Latenser

Minimize Accidents
Meet new safety requirements and keep production moving.
Wulftec® offers custom safety packages. Install these safety features on new or existing equipment, on any brand, for both semi-automatic and fully automatic machines.

Light Curtains uses an invisible beam system to deter people from entering the process area while the muting system allows loads to safely enter and exit the wrap zone.
Electric Dump Valve purges the pneumatic system when an E-stop is pressed, the process area is breached or the machine power is disconnected.
Fencing with safety yellow support posts and black wire mesh keeps personnel from entering the wrap zone.
